Moon and Clouds, Eyes and Time

Last night, the first night in a long number of nights that I was able to do this, I went outside to look at the moon.

I don't know if my newer readers know this, and I'm sure that my older readers have tired of hearing it, but I love the sky.

I love the blue skies of the day and the indigo blackness of the night, I love the stars and the way that they make patterns anad formations in the darkness.
I love the moon, and the planets, and I take great joy in watching them in their stroll across the heavens.
Moreover, I have a great appreciation for the theories behind such bodies. They are fascinating like nothing else, on this world or beyond.

And they don't require a fancy game system or a flat screen tv to enjoy.

Just eyes, and time.

A Quick Study

I usually attribute a number of positive qualities to myself, among them my capacity to study up and learn pretty much anything that I need to within a relatively short period of time.

This has served me well many times, and allowed me to succeed in a number of less than perfect situation. That said, it is usually a good idea to get a grasp of a situation to learn the basics prior to starting out in a new situation in life.

Along with my work and my hobbies, and the process of filling out application after application, I've been doing self study on a few online courses.

Hopefully a few of the skills contained therein prove useful to me.

Winter's Dilemma

Although it is not yet winter, I am already finding myself faced with the classic Winter's Dilemma.

What should I choose as more valuable, my warmth, or my passion?

Every winter, I am tempted to go out and watch the skies, but the cold forces me back indoors to peruse them from the comfort, but inferior angles, of the inside of my home.

I would love to be able to take advantage of the clear winter nights to get some photographs and possibly even video footage of the night sky, but I just can't stomach the cold.

I was lucky enough to be able to get very good visibility of Orion and Ursa Major last night, which is rare. I normally can't make out enough constellations due to cloud cover and light pollution, but I was able to get out aroudn 2 AM when the sky was clear.

I was freezing, however, so I had to leave the sky and grab some cocoa.

A wonderful Full Moon Night

If you're like me, there isn't much more interesting than a full moon in the sky and a smile on your face.

Tonight is your night, if you're living in the United States there should be very good visibility of a relatively full moon this evening. After dusk, the glowing orb should be well visible so long as you don't have too much cloud coverage, and there has been a good chance of clear skies in my area, so I'm hoping to get a good look myself.

Remember, look to the skies to guide you!

A Great Night to Look Up

I've been waiting for a long time to get a good, clear night.

There is something almost magical about being able to look up at the stars at night, and knowing that you are experiencing a unique moment in the history of the universe, with light reaching you from across the vast expanses of space, and time, to provide evidence of things beyond our imaginations.

Unfortunately, I'm going to be waiting even longer. My area is well clouded tonight, and there is little visibility. It is all the more frustrating because of the current phase of the moon, bright and full.

Hopefully the weather will comply in the near future, and I'll be able to share more of the skies.
